Bali itself is divided into areas that are known as Regency’s , this is similar, metaphorically, to the states in Australia or America. Each Regency is further split into districts and again into sub-districts/villages. Each village will have its own community groups. Seminyak is actually a sub-district of Kuta, many regard it as its own unofficial district. The village is on the West Coast of Southern Bali north of Kuta and Legian. This sacred active volcano lies in Kintamani District in Bali’s central highlands, about an hour’s drive from Ubud. The hike, along well-marked trails, is relatively easy and usually takes about two to three hours. Guided treks typically include a picnic breakfast, with eggs cooked by the steam from the active volcano. On a clear day, the views are spectacular, stretching all the way across the Batur caldera; the surrounding mountain range; and beautiful Lake Batur, the island’s main source of irrigation water. Sturdy hiking shoes are essential, and it’s advisable to wear layers, as the temperature can be cool before sunrise. You can also combine a trip here with a visit to one of Bali’s most important temples, Pura Ulun Danu Batur, on the lake’s northwest shore, and a therapeutic soak in hot springs at the beautiful village of Toya Bungkah on the banks of Lake Batur.
Kuta is known as the party capital of Bali and it’s very very westernized. When I first visited years ago, there was no beach shopping mall with designer stores, a range of fabulous beachfront restaurants, no no, and when I visited in 2019, I was actually shocked by just how “not Bali” that Kuta is! But saying that, if you’re craving something more Americanized, or you want to go clubbing, then Kuta is a good place to be. Seminyak is one of the great places to visit in Bali for couples. Seminkyak for me has a little more class and sophistication to it and it’s home to a strip of the best beach bars and restaurants in Bali. It’s probably one of my favourite places in Bali to visit. The 17th-century Pura Ulun Danu Bratan is one of Bali’s most picturesque temple complexes. It sits on a small island along the western shore of Lake Bratan, in the cool highlands of central Bali. Set against the imposing backdrop of Gunung Bratan, the thatched temples reflect on the lake, and when the water levels rise, they seem to float on its surface. Lake Bratan is one of Bali’s main sources of irrigation and drinking water, and the temple complex is dedicated to Dewi Danu, goddess of the sea and lakes. An unusual feature is the Buddhist stupa on the left of the entrance to the first courtyard, with figures of Buddha meditating in the lotus position in niches on the square base. The stupa reflects the adoption of Buddhist beliefs by Balinese Hindus. The best time to visit this sacred Hindu temple complex is early in the day, before the tourist buses arrive. The temple is especially picturesque in the soft morning light, when cool mist sometimes cloaks the lake and the mountains beyond. You can also hire a canoe and paddle out on the lake to explore the meru (thatched shrines) at close range.
Located at the southern tip of Bukit in Bali, Uluwatu beach attracts lots of surfers of varying experience levels from all over the world. The word Uluwatu is formed of two words- ‘Ulu’ which means ‘land’s end’ and ‘watu’ that means rock. This is because its waves are made up of five world-class surf breaks. If you love surfing then bring your board and test your skills but if you would much rather relax then there are plenty of hotels and restaurants there which give a beautiful view of the ocean in all its glory. The slopes of Gunung Agung house Balis highest mountain, Pura Besakih, one of the best tourist attractions in Bali. Legends say that this nine directional temple was built to protect the island from evil. With 28 structures on terraces, it is surrounded by scenic rice paddies, lush forests and vegetation. Quick tip: Hire a registered guide to understand the signs and symbols through terraces. Dress appropriately! Mount Agung is the not just Bali’s spiritual center but it is also the highest peak there. A very revered mountain of Bali, Mount Agung’s peaks are shrouded in mist and clouds. The mountain looks scenic and a beauty to behold during dawn. Its picturesque beauty is perfect for getting some photography done. Trekking and rock climbing is a favored activity over in Mount Agung and it starts early. It is among the best places to see in Bali.
